A Day in the Studio

The recording for the 18th century French drama A Journey Around My Room has been completed. Bringing a landscape to life in a studio is an extraordinary experience. Often the scenes are recorded out of order (to save time) and there is more than one take for ‘the can’. Alongside professional recording engineer David Simpson, I had with me a great troupe of actors, each bringing a formidable background in acting and directing experience. As director, my job is to sit in on the recording and ensure that the natural arc of the story is maintained. An easier task for me than perhaps the actors but you’d never be able to tell: they did it seamlessly!

The post-production stage is where the magic happens. The 18th century world will be created by sound engineer Alex Bennett, who has much experience working on audio plays. I’m looking forward to working with Alex, as this is the stage where the play comes together bit by bit.

A Journey Around My Room is expected to be ready to air towards the end of August. Apt to post about a play on the French Revolution on Bastille Day!
