One year on...
A year ago tonight, Dance The Colour Blue played to its last audience. My first professionally produced play was an entirely unexpected affair…as well as something of a revelatory experience! Previous plays had proved to be very hands-on experiences. Everything from producing, stage-managing, marketing whilst all the time directing a group of talented yet very patient actors. These were all skills I had picked up during my years working with Stark Theatre. This time; however, I handed my play into the supremely professional directorial hands of Olivia Miller-Ross.
Working with the production team at Acting Coach Scotland, Olivia manifested the world I had created on paper. The actors were beautiful to watch: Habiba Saleh, Dani Heron, Nicola Docherty, Rory Grant, Billy Mack and Kareem Nasif; all of whom added dimension, wit, tomfoolery, fantasy, and the genuine sadness which underpins the play. I loved watching them and adored the dance choreography by Sasha Harrington. I was grateful too for the great promo film by Ewan McPherson and the lucid poster by Lawrence Tucker. None of this would have been possible without funding by Creative Scotland.
It all seems rather distant today. Like a dream Penelope might’ve had :)
