A new year...a new project

Time appears sometimes to sit on two different planes, connected orthogonally to one another. On one, it travels so fast so as to seem wired to the energy meter. On the other, sloth-like: easy to forget we were in lockdown at the start of the year.

Every year, I try to make the most of January and February: the sleeper months where the world feels like a town called ‘Sunday’. Prepare then, and you are able to bolt from the hatches in March. By the end of February, I had completed two read-throughs of two new plays. By March, I was once again editing when I decided to do something I had not done before: apply for funding to put on a play. Application completed and waiting on a response, I decided to get involved in a little side project that would forefront both my writing and the acting skills of a great actor I had got to know during one of the aforementioned read-throughs. This took the form of a short film featuring Andy Jones and edited by Alasdair Ferguson. HEAD is available to view on my YouTube channel here:

In October, Creative Scotland awarded me funds to produce Dance The Colour Blue. It is a collaboration with Acting Coach Scotland (ACS) and I am genuinely thrilled at the prospect of being able to produce a fully funded play! The performance is expected to be late June 2023.

For the first time, I go into the new year knowing what it holds creatively. It’s a good feeling.

Happy New Year…see you in ‘23!
