Rhapsody In Blue
Looking back on the run of Dance The Colour Blue is like recalling a dream: you’re convinced it happened, you just can’t point to or touch it. What I do know is…the production was smooth…the cast were exquisite…the audiences were appreciative… and the direction was flawless. And even though the world views everyone in its same unwavering regard, there is a change in my perspective as I look round. It was a beautiful production. A professional production. And that is…something.
This was Olivia Millar-Ross’ debut as sole-director and in my opinion, she did a spell-binding job! Scenes fizzed and popped whilst remaining fluently within the flow of the play. At a duration of 55 minutes the play lived up to its name, dancing beat after narrative beat neither pausing for breath nor breaking into sweat, as it propelled ever forwards to its delicately satisfying denouement.
There is an oft mis-attributed quote which I will now paraphrase: Success has many mothers…
…we can dispense with the second half, as it doesn’t apply here.
Thanks to:
Olivia Millar Ross for your exquisite direction and effervescent delicate touch
Nick Field for your professional production and effortless ‘can-do’ spirit
Habiba Saleh, Billy Mack, Nicola Docherty, Rory Grant, Dani Heron & Kareem Nasif for your touching, pitch-perfect portrayals of characters within the script
Sasha Harrington for beautiful choreography that simultaneously was able to make me smile and feel sad
Haley Hartle for your perfect management
Michael Roddy for some crisp sounds, lighting & visuals
Ewan McPherson for your ‘spiritual-twin’ trailer (and your patience)
Lawrence Tucker for the wonderful poster
Alan Maclean for production shots that caught key dramatic moments.
Finally, thanks to the many audience members who took time from their day and £s from their pockets to see this production. This was the first time The Old Gym Theatre@ACS had run a play longer than 2 nights. You have helped us prove there is demand for theatre-in-the community when it is done right. Thank you. Next round is on me, and no games…promise! :)
